King Post Retention Scheme
Client: Sir Robert McAlpine
MG Construction was awarded the contract at Leith Street, Edinburgh by Sir Robert McAlpine to form a retention system to the site boundaries to enable deep excavations to take place. This consisted of King Posts constructed into rock which in turn were restrained by anchors grouted into rock. The reinforced concrete panels between posts were constructed in-situ as the excavation progressed in a sequence to ensure support throughout. Due to the extreme conditions of the site i.e a steeply sloping site of restricted size in central Edinburgh, specialist plant was fabricated to suit.
